Boston’s Best: Winteractive

Check out this very unusual, sometimes interactive, temporary art installation in Downtown Boston! Come see the 16 installations before they are gone in April! The initiative is put forward by the Downtown Boston Business Improvement District, an organization trying to make downtown a place for more than just tired office workers and bored teenagers.

Follow the map to find all the stops - some are interactive, playing music when you approach or shining lights to creepily follow your every move! Be inspired, slightly confused, or somewhat disturbed by Boston's latest creative project!

Endgame (Nagg & Nell)

The two clown heads are a reference to the Samuel Beckett play in which two characters, Nagg and Nell, live out their days in a dumpster after losing their legs.

The Swing

Meant to be a cheerful display of a girl on a swing. Unfortunately, multiple people have called the Boston police department to report someone who looks like they are about to jump. Cheerful indeed...

Woman Suspended

We all have those days sometimes...

Stair Walker

Because its always good to be reminded that someone can walk right into your second floor window at any time. Upside down, of course.

Fisherman

Aren't we all just fishing for someone's heart?

Island of Warmth

An "urban bonfire" that flickers in response to a spectator's movements. The inspiration here is to let "festivalgoers stir the virtual embers and trigger flames that dance, spark and swirl". Feel free to read more about the Boston Fire of 1872 that took place in this exact area on Wikipedia!

Echoes - A Voice From Uncharted Waters

A large whale statue to remind us that if we waste Earth's precious resources, they will make noises at you. No seriously, don't stand too close if you like your ear drums intact!

Clothesline

A wonderful reminder of the clotheslines that used to hang in Boston's tenement housing during our immigration days!

Light Lane Bikes

Feel free to hop on for a ride that goes nowhere!
