Overview

Our spookiest tour, spend a whirlwind day exploring Salem and Boston, fun for all ages! The day starts in Boston, where you’ll learn about how Boston was first settled and grew into the city it is today. Drive through all of Boston's historical landmarks, listening to stories about the city! Take a walk through Little Italy, visiting locations of key events in the American Revolution. Break for lunch in America's oldest tavern or restaurant, or in a local artisanal market with dozens of local vendors!

In the afternoon, drive to Salem to learn about the witch hunt hysteria of the late 17th century. Walk through historic downtown, learning about the area's Puritan past and harsh reality of daily life under New England's early theocratical government. Tour the Salem Maritime National Historic Site to learn about the maritime history of the area.

Itinerary

Freedom Trail Drive
Drive through some of the main attractions on the historical Freedom Trail while learning about Boston’s part in the American Revolution. Learn the roles that sites such as Faneuil Hall, Old State House, the Old Corner Bookstore, and others played in weaving the rich tapestry of the city’s past.

North End
Tour this neighborhood, known as “Little Italy” and learn about the role immigrants have in shaping Boston’s dynamic past and present! Listen to stories about the Boston’s maritime past and how it shaped the North End. Learn about how the area rose to prominence due to famous residents such as Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy, mother of JFK.

Copp’s Hill Burying Ground & Old North Church
Stroll through Boston’s second oldest burying ground, taking in view of the harbor and Charlestown. Learn all about Boston’s part in the events of the American Revolution. Visit the Old North Church and learn all about the midnight ride of Paul Revere and the historical inaccuracies of the famous poem!

Charlestown
Charlestown is home to the last two stops on the Freedom Trail with the Bunker Hill Monument and the USS Constitution. See “Old Ironsides”, the world's oldest ship still afloat, and then proceed to the Bunker Hill Monument. The tall obelisk monument of Bunker Hill marks the location of the first battle of the American Revolution!

Salem Witch History
Start the visit to Salem with learning about the history behind the witch-hunt hysteria of the 17th century. Drive the sights associated with witch history, including the Salem Witch Museum, Gallows Hill, and the Witch House. Visit the Witch Trials Memorial and hear the stories behind each of the 20 victims who perished during that fateful year.

Salem’s Literary Past
Learn about Salem’s most prominent author, the eccentric Nathaniel Hawthorne. Visit the house the writer was born in (although not in its original location!), as well as the the House of the Seven Gables, which inspired the novel by the same name. Learn about the connection between the past and present of Salem through the history of Hawthrone’s family.

Maritime Trade
Stroll through Salem’s Maritime site, home to the historic Derby Wharf and Lighthouse. Learn about Salem’s prominent role in the development of trade from the colonies to China and East India. The success of maritime trade in the area led to Salem becoming one of the richest and largest cities in America by late 18th century.
