Boston’s Best: Polcari’s Coffee

This beloved coffee and spice shop is a long time North End establishment that first opened its doors in 1932. Anthony Polcari had a dream of opening up a local coffee store ever since he came over from Italy at the age of 20. Working as a pocket-maker at a local tailor’s shop, Mr. Polcari saved up to open his own coffee store on Salem Street in the North End. Polcari’s Coffee was a family owned business, with Mr. Polcari’s wife Rose and children (Ralph, Anthony and Marie) all working in the store, helping their father achieve his dream.

Ralph soon took over the store from his father. Ralph didn't have children to pass down the beloved store to, but the story doesn't end there. Polcari's coffee is a great example that family is not just people you share blood with, but a family can be made. Bobby Eustace worked for Polcari's Coffee for 26 years, and in 2005 he took over as the owner of the store. Bobby still owns the store today!

Stop by Polcari's Coffee today to get fresh spices, the best coffee in Boston (ground to order), teas, sweets, and so much more! You’ll even get to see the store use the original scales from the opening day to weigh your coffee to the exact amount you need! Want to see more in the area? Check out our North End Group Tour!
